:: Ringo Rama (w/bonus DVD)Ringo StarrRingo has compiled quite a decent album here. Many would have written this off before even giving it a chance. But this CD is owed a listen for some very heartfelt lyrics and feelings. Ringo never forgets his mates and his late buddy George Harrison is the subject of a dedication in “Never Without You”. It’s a beautiful tribute to show how much George meant to him. Ringo enjoys the services of the legendary Eric Clapton on lead guitar and has a fine set of musicians with this album. Some of the songs work well in carrying the 70s sound and there are dense drum sounds from the man himself. Fine production comes from the use of notable artists like Jeff Lynne, Shawn Colvin, and Willie Nelson. There is even the voice of the late “Big O” Roy Orbison. Other tracks to note are the Beatles-styled “Elizabeth Reigns” and “Write One For Me”. Forget any preconceptions. There are enjoyable moments of recognisable sounds and adept musicianship (Ringo’s drumming is dynamic) that makes this a strong release. Added value comes with a bonus DVD that is brilliantly compiled in telling the behind-the-scenes efforts of “Ringo Rama”. Overall, it’s a great package from a person fondly reliving the past and spontaneously celebrating where he’s at today. |
