:: EcholaliaSomething For KateMelbourne band Something For Kate has not failed to deliver with album number three, “Echolalia”, one of the most anticipated Australian albums of the year. Once again, SFK have produced a collection of songs of an exceptional quality. However, unlike the immediate impact of the guitar-driven debut Elsewhere For Eight Minutes or the dreamy Beautiful Sharks, Echolalia requires a little more patience. The album, which is layered with new sounds, shows a maturer band and slowly unveils itself with every listen. There is a real warmness attached to the album, a feel which can largely be attributed to the engineering skills of US producer Trina Shoemaker (Sheryl Crow, Queens of the Stone Age) whom the band were eager to work with. The album opener ‘Stunt Show’ is the perfect track to set the mood for the album, creeping up on you slowly, and featuring an increasingly confident and fluent sounding Paul Dempsey vocal performance. The upbeat and latest single ‘Three Dimensions’ with its ripping chorus is destined to become a SFK classic, while ‘Jerry, Stand Up’ itself stands up as one of the band‘s most passionate and accomplished works to date. From the beautiful simplicity of 'You Only Hide’ to the country-rock of ‘Twenty Years’, “Echolalia” is a ‘complete’ album showcasing the musical and songwriting talents of one of the country's finest bands. Without doubt one of the releases of the year. |
