The second single from the big “Break the Cycle” CD, “Fade” is the big heavy metal power ballad made famous and fashionable by Metallica in the late eighties, although to be fair, this is probably not in their league. The big guitars and meaningful verses are present here, as is the sing along chorus (cue the waving cigarette lighters). The b-side features the album cut of this song and a live version of the first single, “It’s Been Awhile”, a more restrained version of the power ballad formula. The final track has obviously been added to wake you up, a full-on metal fest called “Spleen” – how appropriate, I think I ruptured mine just listening to it! www.staind.com
