Stone Sour

This band was originally formed in 1992 and included Slipknot lead singer Corey Taylor. He returns to his previous band and this self-titled release sees bouts of heavy, intense rock with surprising soothing melodies. One can say that it is part pure rock adrenalin and part introspective and refined. The album covers the entire rock spectrum. Check out the piano-tinged feel of “Rules of Evidence” and the spoken word musings of “Omega” as interesting variations. Other tracks of note are “Bother”, a more mellow song and showing how hard rock bands are more than adept at singing ballads. “Take A Number” also has a relaxed vibe, while “Cold Reader” has an aggressive tone. With good guitar solos and often stripped-down production, this is a refreshing mix of music though Corey’s association with Slipknot may confuse fans. Does this put a hole in the Slipknot camp? I hope it doesn’t. We’ll wait with interest.
