:: AquaticaSutrobathThis is a band from Oregon, USA and is the brainchild of musicians/songwriters Mike Soiseth and Rob Wollam. I haven’t heard their previous material so I don’t know about the level of progression made. However, this is one really good CD. It is a powerful brand of driving rock punches but has that bit of class in the way the songs are written and formulated. The Brit-pop influence is noticeable with The Beatles coming to mind in affecting their thinking in terms of an attempt to master a pop production. If you listen to tracks titled “Never Been Better” and “Holiday”, you will get an idea. But they play with variations into elements of psychedelia and progressive rock. “White Star” is a good example and it has a real beauty attached to it. Sutrobath push boundaries in escaping through genres with innovative ideas. Observe the clever use of cello, violin and horns that augment the sharpness of the regular instrumentation. There are two hidden tracks to finish with, just to stretch their journey further. The last track is glorious. Overall, it’s a fresh sound and something to savour. Who knows what future sounds they can conjure? http://www.sutrobath.com |
