Switchkicker

A very immediate, impacting sound from versatile Sydneysider Daniel Sutherland (Switchkicker). He had been a remixer/producer for some time and one can feel the intensity in the personal nature of the songs. There are subjects for all of us to observe. He helps create some varied soundscapes. Dark and intriguing is the underlying theme with tracks of note being “The Driver” – strong drumbeats and big guitar sound, and the stomping “Shutdown” with danceable beat. Over a couple of listens “Drown” grabbed me. It has a swirling, distorted feel – the sense of mystery that wants you to hear it over and over. “We’re Not Apart” has a good pop notion. It’s a strong debut effort, suiting listeners with a pop ear and others who like the added technical fiasco that resonates.
