:: Chapter 2: The Voice

Syleena Johnson

Syleena is one of the most talented soul/blues vocalists in the United States. I was first made aware of her prowess a couple of years ago with her first album “Chapter 1: Love, Pain & Forgiveness” and her star has been shining brightly ever since. This new album is a great addition and complements the first beautifully. Here, she enlists the help of people like Busta Rhymes and R Kelly on a couple of tracks, but it’s her beautiful voice that resonates across the songs. Tracks to listen out for in particular are: “Faithful To You”, lifted from upcoming “Drumline” soundtrack, “I Believe In Love”, and the last track, “Tonight I’m Gonna Let Go (remix) that features Busta Rhymes and the Flipmode Squad. The more you listen, the more you will be addicted to Syleena’s smoky, gifted voice in capturing the fulfilment of contemporary R&B and old-fashioned blues as most probably influenced by her father Syl Johnson (of “Take Me To The River” fame). This is a very personal performer and unique songstress and she has a classic quality unlike the sort of R&B-pop style you hear on the radio these days. Syleena is true to herself and her talent is proudly displayed. Highly recommended. http://www.syleenajohnson.com
