:: TantricTantricTantric is a re-incarnation of a previous band, which split up on the verge of success after platinum selling single followed by a tour opening for Metallica. The individuals involved regrouped, found a new lead singer, wrote some more songs, became Tantric and this is the result. The influence of Metallica is obvious from the outset. The familiar melodic guitar riffs and power chords, mixed in with slow menace laden songs take you back 10 years to the height of Metallica’s popularity. The highlights of this album for me were the first couple of songs, “Breakdown” (the first single) and “Live Your Life (Down)” follow this formula to a t. “I Don’t Care” differs slightly. A radio friendly song with acoustic guitars and anthem chorus, it sounds good. Other tracks worthy of mention include “Revillusion” which features some great sounding riffs, “Mourning”, the obligatory power ballad does the job while the intensity is picked up again with “Frequency” – a riff-laden orgy. Tantric is a very good release from this young band from Kentucky. The CD sounds terrific, with great production by Toby Wright (Korn, Alice in Chains). I would expect to hear more from these guys in the future. |
