The Anyones

I wasn’t sure of this band’s capabilities a couple of years ago. But it’s like many times where some good support, patience, and motivation lends itself to breaking barriers and start to fulfil a journey. This self-titled album sees a vast improvement for The Anyones in moving up a notch or two from just any other band. This is one of the most inviting, well-crafted Australian albums of the year. It would have helped, no end, to score the services of Chris Dickie and Paul McKercher in the production side to give some oomph and breadth to the sound. Opening track “Pocket” has a real pop sensibility about it and sets the album in right motion. “Come Around” has been reshaped from last year’s single release, with added bit through synths. It’s hard to be critical or let down by much here. There’s the backbone of solid instrumentation and a confidence that brings out the feel-good pop tendencies. Listen out for two reprises on the album, where a beautiful and cello set connects the other tracks well. This is a great listen and should be truly appreciated for the effort achieved.
