:: Since I Left YouThe AvalanchesThis is quite an experience. To listen to the production of the instrumentals and generation of sounds is fascinating. We’ve already spoken highly of the amazing single “Frontier Psychiatrist”, with its soundtrack fusion. The other tracks show a great deal of enterprise as well, providing a flavoured assortment of uptempo beats and charming samples. The vocals are well captured, right from the captivating opening title track, which is simply delectable. Once into the vibe of this collection, you’ll notice the more cohesive workings than the rather muddled approach upon their beginnings a couple of years ago. This is a big transformation. Dance floor exponents will revel in disco-oriented tracks such as “Radio” and “A Different Feeling”, and there is simply a wonderful feel in “Tonight May Have To Last Me All My Life”. It’s probably going to trouble the minds of the music purist that wish to look away from the sampling techniques. It’s their bread and butter and it’s a matter of being ready for the next one. But the guys have an uncanny knack of integrating some stunning grooves and melodies. The tracks even flow well into each other. It’s music for pleasure and The Avalanches’ innovative methods are to be strongly commended. It was one of the last albums that I heard in 2000 and one of the most refreshing from an Australian act. |
