The Dandy Warhols

It’s not hard to be embedded into the thought processes and cool vibe that The Dandy Warhols outlay. They are one hell of a band and this fourth album contains the fresh sense of irony and catchy melodies that epitomise their character. There are some cracking tracks that bite fervently while a couple of other tracks may not readily stand up, but a few listens would straighten that out. The Dandy Warhols is unlike any other band today in terms of their position in style and history. The tongue-in-cheek lyrics and nonchalant vocals of Courtney Taylor win over charmingly. Listen out for the change in guitar emphasis to more use of synthesisers. They have just toned back on guitar usage and the production team elevated this idea. The band engaged the services of Duran Duran member Nick Rhodes to provide valuable input, while his colleague Simon Le Bon does backing vocals on “Plan A”, one of the standout tracks. David Bowie and T-Rex producer Tony Visconti collaborates on “The Dope” and the glam “Hit Rock Bottom”. Don’t be too fooled by the presence of these guys. The Dandy Warhols is still firmly rooted in the 90s and they remain edgy and tuneful, with a new sheen placed into the electro anthems. Other tracks of note are “I Am Over It”, the beautiful sounding “You Were The Last High”, and “I Am Sound”. The limited edition version of the CD is well packaged and comes with a CDROM with video, screensaver, pictures, etc. For me, this band can do no wrong. They are brilliant at blending their influences into something original and tangible. This album is highly recommended.
