The Donnas

In celebrating the coming of age, the feisty foursome displays terrific maturity in continuing their development from their previous album. A good songwriting structure and blinding hooks provide this platform for continued improvement. This is an electric and intense rock ‘n’ roll record, where the girls are free of any inhibitions. Their Ramones influence is still strong but touched with modern-day thinking. There’s no fuss. “40 Boys in 40 Nights” is an interesting track, their sheer irresistible style to a hysterical claim. They punch out “Hot Pants” and “Do You Wanna Hit It”, while sensuality shines through on “Are You Gonna Move It For Me?” The rush of blood continues with a cover of Judas Priest’s “Livin’ After Midnight”. The instant appeal of The Donnas is their cool, tongue-in-cheek lyrical content. It’s the cheeky style that sets them apart from many other such bands. This album shows the girls are to be reckoned with and the best part is that they don’t lose their dirty sound even with better production.
