:: Humblinâ (Across America)The Orange Humble BandA name of this kind may indicate a gathering of a “superband” of sorts. Well, five musicians from different parts of the world have assembled for the band’s second major release. Many would know Ken Stringfellow (The Posies) and he is the lead vocalist for this group. He puts in a terrific vocal performance throughout the set, displaying a heartfelt, soulful effort in harnessing a roots-based integration of styles. In recording the album in Memphis, the band called upon additional players from the area to accomplish the “right” Southern instrumentation. All up, the listener is taken on an engaging journey. The whole exercise works cohesively. The country rock and rootsy atmospheres are very simple and effective, from the adept musicianship. Highlights are “Freewheelin’”, “What’s Your Crime?” and “Annie Run Run Run”. There is a feelgood, infectious feeling upon listening to these and most of the fifteen tracks. Good to hear something refreshing within an American-based sound structure. |
