The Underwolves

The diverse combination of London based duo Professor Stretch and Ned Kelly combine to deliver some wonderfully compelling music. This act, named after the ‘rebellious underclass’ of the British dance scene, has intertwined their various dance backgrounds to enlighten fans to a blend of sophisticated jazz and soul influences. It is certainly refreshing for me to be introduced to new chapters in the dance scene from abroad. Right from opening track “Stay A While”, in listening to the sublime vocals of Madeleine Edgehill (from reggae band Acabu), you can’t help but be charmed and attracted to the remainder of the CD. By the way, ex-All Saints star Melanie Blatt adds backing vocal to that opening track. There are slick orchestral moments through the early part as the tempo moves up a notch on addictive tracks like “Shaken” and “Comin Home”. A highlight for me is the gorgeous rhythm of track 3 “Prema Redentor”. It’s a seducing nine minutes of music. With moments of ambience like “68 Moves”, you have a varied package of styles and good songwriting.
