:: A Night Out With Vicious GroovesVarious ArtistsThe relatively new Vicious label places an emphasis on funky elements of house and this CD has one of Australia’s foremost DJs, John Course, who is the label founder, mixing eleven tracks. Highlights include the sound of Cosmetic & Bamboo (Two Melbourne indie labels) through the tracks “Why R We Makin Music (deep bass sound) and Djeeps’s “What’s Come Over Me”, with its electronic vibe. Sgt Slick makes his contribution with “Don’t Touch” – good quirky beats and synths. The compilation brings out a solid, uplifting sound from local producers and is generally enjoyable. A couple of other tracks to note. One of the best is “You Give Me Everything”, by Mark John specialises in breakbeats. This is effective and it has the power vocals of Abey Joyce. There is also an additional bonus remix, which, though not named, is mainly instrumental in techno fashion. This collection is a great big dance sound that should please followers of Melbourne’s club scene. |
