:: Boozoo Bajou presents Juke JointVarious ArtistsAt first, one is tempted to write this off as an eclectic little mixture of chilled, sexy house. The real magic comes out though, in the juxtaposition of tunes like John Lee Hooker’s ‘Goin’ to Louisiana’ with the house feel of the rest of the tracks. Freddi McGregor is another curve ball, this time reggae. What started out as another house compilation begins to take shape into an interesting compilation now, with Bazoo not afraid to play what he likes, apparently. Willi Wright brings home some finger licking good funk with ‘Right on for the Darkness’. My favourite has to be Paul Weller’s ‘Wild Wood’ though. A lingering rock/soul piece that captures the feeling of the compilation in its delicate harmonies and easygoing malaise. Good summer album. |
