:: DTPM The Deep Funky Sound of Sundays

Various Artists

This is the first in a series of releases from the well-credentialled club night at Fabric, DTPM. A creation of eclectic atmospheric moments comprises this 2-CD collection of thirty tracks. From frenetic house grooves to some dark, moody techno sounds encompass the resident DJs Alan Thompson and Miguel Pelitero. Disc 2 gives us Alan’s contribution, with highlights being track 6 “Scream & Shout” by Committee, where we listen to a sample of “I Have A Dream” by Martin Luther King. There are also delicious little vocal noises on track 15 “Life Goes On” by Georgie Porgie. There is generally a bouncy, fun feeling throughout this disc. Disc 1 showcases Miguel’s deep, dark feel in some effective mixes, including track 4 “Birds” by Yukihiro Fukotomi, a simply dazzling sound, plus track 5 “Amman” by Wally Lopez, which is truly invigorating. Miguel’s Latin influences are infectious in packing a glorious set of rhythms. It’s a terrific contrast to the other disc. All up, it’s a pretty classy collection and great value.
