:: Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life

Various Artists

Blockbuster movie soundtracks tend to be one of two things, either a hit or a miss. More often than not the success of a soundtrack is closely related to the accompanying film’s box office (eg, Moulin Rouge, The Matrix etc). The bigger the film, the more records sold. In this instance I can safely say, even if the film is not a hit, the soundtrack should be. Like one of Lara’s super stylish semi automatics, the soundtrack not only hits the target it annihilates it. The album producers have cleverly selected tracks by popular fringe artists such as The Crystal Method, P.O.D, Gerling and The Dandy Warhols; bands who hover between the mainstream and the alternative with great success. The mixture of predominantly rock and dance, is a direct compliment to the Lara Croft personality; slick, dangerous and ready for action. The only downfall of the album lies in its cover design, as the song sequence does not match the track listing on the back. Putting this aside, the question must be asked; will the curves that make the movie also make the music?
