:: The Sound of Movement (mixed by Bryan Gee)

Various Artists

“Perpetual drum & bass motion” – that’s what it says on the cover, and that is what Bryan Gee delivers here. This is the finest mix of the year so far. Even those averse to drum & bass should take note. Everything about this mix suggests greatness. I’ve dabbled in drum & bass for years now, never diving head-long in, often alienated by some of the more grinding, fierce stuff, but this mix is just brilliant. Its funky, totally dancefloor focused, and features a selection of the biggest and best cuts from the drum & bass world from the last 12 months. I’m not going to give you a track by track run-down, because it wouldn’t do it justice. Some of the artists listed include Roni Size, Dillinja (wow!), Calibre, Marky &XRS, Total Science, RuffStuff & Li and Ray Keith. It starts off with some of the rougher stuff, before utilising some beautiful female vocal samples, then kicking into some of the more minimal stuff courtesy of Calibre. The mix gets sun kissed towards the end, featuring some gorgeous Latin-inspired tracks, including the mini-anthem ‘Capoeira’ by Infrared vs. Gil Felix and ‘LK’ by Marky & XRS. Essential – buy this today.
