:: This Is Not A Sound ClashVarious ArtistsRecord label samplers are usually pretty average affairs, but every so often a label that emphasises quality rather than quantity does a little primer for the market that is fantastic. Nuphonic, a British dance label of serious pedigree has thrown up a selection of cuts released during the last year and is a great taster for people not familiar with their uncompromising dedication to class. The compilation opens with the stunning In the Trees by Faze Action, proving that no-one does the string-laden dance thing better than them. Other stand-out tracks include Tiny Trendies The Sky is not Crying and Adam Goldstone’s Alternations, a beautiful piece of soulful house that has minimal percussion, rather using a groovy bass line to kick the track along and featuring legendary diva Fonda Rae. Justin Robertson also contributes with The Brightest Thing, his radio friendly little jazz-house number from last year. Also included is a track from one of the finest albums of last year – Yesterday has gone from Ladyvipb (Maurice Fulton’s) brilliant Stories of a Broken Heart and Recovering. A nice sampler available around town for budget price. Worth buying for sure… |
