:: I’m Already Home

Waikiki

One of the most exciting albums of this year. Mind you, this was apparent once we’d heard what the band had already done leading up to this point. “New Technology” is a gorgeous pop track that comes in an extended album format. “Here Comes September”, co-written with Ben Lee, is an extremely catchy song. But it’s worth having a good listen to discover the maturity in the depth and texture of the Waikiki sound. There are some spellbinding moments where the listener feels like they’re in a dreamworld. “Enough” builds beautifully, “Did I” indicates a strong pop sensibility, and “Beautiful Picture” oozes beauty and charm. Juanita Stein has an effective vocal that brings a good feel to the music. The latest single is “Lucky”, an upbeat guitar rock number with Joel Stein taking over the lead vocal duties from his sister. Having called in ex-Cars singer Ric Ocasek to assist early in the album’s development, the results are pleasing. The good thing is the knowledge that there is great scope to the band. The sheer talent and purposeful songwriting should take them on a positive journey. This album deserves high marks.
