Wilco

A cacophony of loops and samples signifies the propelled melodies of Wilco’s first album in three years. It’s a fine collection, including sampled spoken word components, and a variety of bleeps and squeaks. The soundscape changes within each song and it is quite effective and unpredictable in many ways. It’s very much a statement of indicating their own freedom of expression and they deserve credit. They provoke a response and communicate with the listening audience adeptly. A couple of interesting songs are “Poor Places” – stripped down to reveal a cold-hearted mood, and the artistic, acoustic guitars on “Radio Cure”. Honesty rings true with singer-songwriter Jeff Tweedy. He writes of romanticism and wounded souls and it’s well expressed. A fine effort.
