:: Dress Me SlowlyYou Am IYou Am I’s fifth album is a masterpiece of pop rock. From beginning to end they have delivered the kind of album you’ve always suspected them capable of delivering. There seems to be the perfect mix of rocking gems, blended perfectly with introspective ballads, all performed with that loose, Stones swagger that You Am I have made their own. The album opens with probably the five best songs. The punchy “Judge Roy” opens proceedings, followed by the current single, the rocking “Get Up”. Tim Rogers’ love letter to his wife, “Beautiful Girl” is next followed by the beautiful first single “Damage” – this song is just about perfect. The tempo is lifted with the horn laden “Doug Sahm”, thus ending 16 minutes of perfect rock ‘n’ roll. The fun doesn’t end there. Further highlights include “Satisfied Mind” and “Bring Some Sun Back”, a twin set of rocking songs, the sparse “Weeds”, with it’s shuffling brushes and soft horns that work really well. Dress Me Slowly ends with “End O’ The Line” a down and dirty little number – very enjoyable. This release for some reason reminds me of the Hoodoo Gurus album, “Kinky”. Perhaps it’s the easy mix of ballads and the coolest of Aussie rock that joins them. Either way Dress Me Slowly is a true masterpiece that everyone should own. |
