:: Lost Soul MusicsjdThe press release declares “Anyone who's ever gotten down to Beck, loves the funky side of Radiohead or swooned to the beautiful melancholia of Jeff Buckley, this one is definitely for you.” That's some pretty heady company to be drawing parallels to, but this CD just about gets away with it. It's funky and groovy in a noisy street-smart way and sjd's (Sean James Donnelly) vocals are atmospheric and spectacular. What's nice about this is that sjd is an electronic artist who can sing, and I mean really sing. No need to wheel in the guest vocalists here (just quirky guest musicians). So it feels more cohesive as an album, which leaves him free to play with the musical styles instead. One of New Zealand's finest! |
