An interesting take on the dance music industry, but hardly a predictable one. The rise of the modern DJ has brought with it a revolting type of lounge lizard that previously was only confined to the excess of rock. This international super-star DJ, complete with groupies, average mixed albums and self-important quotes in clubbing magazines must really annoy Sonic Animation as much as it frustrates me. Unfortunately this track falls in the category of novelty dance music, so it’s hard to compare much of what is being played in clubland. Taken from their latest LP, the track comes with some interesting remixes. The irony was clearly lost on Mark James who contributes a “Future Mix” of fairly generic progressive beats over the main lyric. A song that lashes out at the corporate state of DJ’ing only to have a “Future Mix” complete with brand name in the title is a little confusing, but perhaps the joke is on the remixer here? To sum it up, here’s the best lyric: I’m a DJ, I’m a self-indulgent git
