:: Bruises You Can Touch

speedstar

A terrific release from this Brisbane band – a true revelation. It shows us what talent we have here and that bands like speedstar need to be supported, instead of pandering to overrated overseas bands. Many well-known bands like Radiohead and Dave Matthews Band can put out a bunch of garbage, and get all the accolades in the world. This band is part of the future that we should be caring about. I’ve kept a watch on them for a couple of years now, and the development has been terrific. This debut album draws upon influences such as Weezer and Ryan Adams to give an Australian version along the lines of the cool UK indie scene that is currently the talk of the town. It’s lush and enthusiastic with earthy-layered sounds to absorb. Australian country music star Kasey Chambers guests on “It’s Okay To be Sad When It Rains” and makes a worthy contribution. Then, there is the very accessible indie pop of “Fallen Star”, and the touching “Brand New Armour”. Alister Bell’s fine vocals grab attention in what is a well-crafted chapter of the band. Look out for much more. http://www.speedstar.com.au
