Various Artists

This is the third compilation (soundtrack) of world and acoustic songs produced by those behind the SBS Television Show ‘Global Village’ and they need to be congratulated for putting together such a great variety of music, a mixture that will alert most people that there is more to World Music than just groups such as Enigma and Deep Forrest. This is a compilation that you can listen to over and over and will have you scouring your local music store for albums by the artists found here… as there are some absolute gems. Apart from Angelique Kidjo (‘Summertime’) and Dave Pike (‘Mathar’), most of the artists here will be new to anyone who hears the album and you’ll definitely fall in love with the reggae stylings of Asa with her very powerful track ‘Jailer’. Other standout tracks include the acoustic pop Cocoon (‘Owls’), the outstanding Thee, Stranded Horse (Charming Strides) and world music at its best with Khaled (‘Mani Hani’) and Carla Bruni (‘Lady Weedping At The Crossroads’). But by far the best track to be fond here is ‘Arrebol’ by Aline De Lima, a beautiful folk song that samples bird calls throughout, a song that will stay with you for a long time. In fact the best way to describe this album is beautiful. I know a lot of people are scared off by the term ‘world music’ but this is one album that all serious music lovers will adore.
