:: Various Artists - Gnomeo & Juliet Original SoundtrackVarious ArtistsWalt Disney Records has released the soundtrack for the Touchstone Pictures animated comedy adventure film “Gnomeo & Juliet”. It is a fourteen-track album that features nine new and classic songs by the great team of Sir Elton John and Bernie Taupin, and performed by Sir Elton himself. Among the key tracks are two new songs, “Hello Hello” and “Love Builds a Garden,” as well as a terrific remake of Elton’s Number One hit from 1973, “Crocodile Rock,” sung as a duet with Nelly Furtado. The soundtrack also includes selections from Oscar-nominated composer James Newton Howard and Chris Bacon. The classic Sir Elton John recordings featured in the soundtrack include “Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting,” “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” (a duet with Kiki Dee), “Bennie and the Jets,” “Tiny Dancer” and “Your Song.” I haven't seen the film but I'm told it is a funny and, of course, based on one of the greatest love stories of all time - Romeo & Juliet. Therefore, several of these songs seem the right type. The new songs are quite good with Sir Elton sounding better than he has for a while. “Hello Hello” sounds appropriately 1970s British pop. “Love Builds A Garden” proves Taupin and John can still turn out a piano ballad to great effect. Overall, it's a great testament to the fact that Sir Elton's music transcends generations, genres, and even gardens. It will satisfy families, as the parents will love the inclusion of the old rock songs. So yes, garden gnomes, pop rock, and Shakespeare can go together cohesively. | ![]() |
