:: The Go-Betweens - Oceans Apart

The Go-Betweens

This is the ninth album from Australian rock stalwarts The Go-Betweens. While I‘m not a huge fan of their visceral musical landscape, I can see their charm. They combine beautiful imagery with experience to create warm, familiar tunes that seem to contain plenty yet are quite sparse. It's a slow, emotive kind of album that may take several listens to fully appreciate but often they're the best kind. From the slightly more upbeat opener of, 'Here Comes A City’ through to closer ‘The Mountains Near Dellray’, The Go-Betweens showcase how they've been able to remain popular over the years (now 16) without ever selling out. Both Grant McLennan and Robert Forster conjure up a life less complicated. A life when music was all about the music and not about an image or clever marketing strategy. And that speaks volumes!
