:: Various Artists - Greatest Irish Bands + bonus DVD

Various Artists

The best part of this unique compilation is the variety on offer. Fans would already be aware of some top billing artists like U2, The Corrs, Van Morrison, and Thin Lizzy. The ones not so recognisable, Stiff Little Fingers, The Undertones, and The Pogues are deservedly included and provide fine contributions. Naturally, the classic “Brown Eyed Girl” by Van Morrison and U2’s “Where The Streets Have No Name” showcase the quality of those artists. Lots of other noteworthy tracks give a solid representation. It’s a good blend of punk favourites to go with those classic pop songs. Others on the album include the blues of Rory Gallagher, ballad between Clannard and U2’s Bono, and the eclectic vibe of Hothouse Flowers. The bonus DVD “Sightings Of Bono” is a cult short film of seven minutes, a worthwhile addition, probably just for U2 collectors to savour as something rare. Overall, it’s great to have the opportunity to revisit these songs and to acknowledge the Irish contribution.
