You have to hand it to Nick Cave. He‘s a man of many talents as his latest venture Grinderman looks set to tear you up the airwaves with this excellent debut release. Although this is considered a “side” project for Cave, truth be told it's just the Bad Seeds in another guise more or less. Regardless, the self-titled 'Grinderman’ album is one dirty rocking and rolling record. Apparently, it‘s the first time Cave has played and recorded using an electric guitar. Fair to say, it's a devil of a plan and after listening to this you've got to wonder why it wasn't done sooner. The songs are terse and full of fury, as Cave spits out some lyrical venom, while the rest of the boys add some seriously heavy sounds. Their guitars squeal and scream, drums smash and crash while all the time there's some intense, interesting concepts and ideas forcing their way outward. It's dark in places, bleak in others but overall does the job. With song titles ranging from 'No Pussy Blues’ to ‘Depth Charge Ethel’ and ‘Electric Alice’, it's one wild ride. This album doesn't follow the rules - it makes them!
