:: Hermitude - Tales Of The DriftHermitudeIn Tales of the Drift, the follow up to their first album Alleys To Valleys, the Hermitude production pairing of Luke Dubs and Elgusto bring us a little more of their chilled out mountains style. The boys have drawn on a variety of influences and samples to produce a record with dreamlike qualities - shimmering, spaced out music interspersed with rising tempo’s, mixed vocals and a sense that these boys really enjoy what they do. While most tracks appeal in their own special way, standouts for me included Galactic Cadillac, a spacey little number with a catchy beat, Can’t Stop - featuring soft beats and great samples, Nightfalls Messenger brings us sounds of the orient, and Plunge takes us to the jungle. And I love Madness in G Minor - it’s completely insane. Then there’s the upbeat Music from The Mind featuring the funky Blu MC who confesses all she can do is listen to the music in her head - perfect for summer dance offs. There’s even guest vocals from Elefant Traks stable mates Ozi Batla and Urthboy from the Herd -you might have heard their collaboration Falling Giants during its high rotation on Triple J. It’s hard to categorise this album, but it says to me chilled out summer beats. I’m seeing backyard barbecues, hanging out by the pool, sunsets on balconies or late night grooves. The perfect accompaniment to your summer days and nights. So drift of and enjoy these tales from Hermitude….. or you can catch them at one of their live dates over the summer. You won’t be disappointed. | ![]() |
