:: Heroes - Original SoundtrackHeroesSoundtracks are always finicky business, no one ever likes all the songs on them and nor should they. The songs aren’t chosen because they have a similar sound or because they go together well, they’re chosen because they just happened to suit a certain scene in a certain episode of, in this case, the TV show Heroes. As a result you get a lot of different and often conflicting sounds by a lot of different artists. As for the Heroes soundtrack only the most eclectic listener would be able to get through the whole album without skipping songs. There is too broad a mix of artists, from Panic at the Disco to David Bowie, with nothing to connect the dots in between. The album is a mix of better known artists like Panic, Bowie, Iggy Pop, The Chemical Brothers and Bob Dylan, as well as some fresh faces like The Jesus and Mary Chain and Cucu Diamantes and Verba Buena. All the tracks come at you from very different corners. You’ve got your cool, rock melodies, headed by a great little tune called Weightless by Brooklyn three-piece Nada Surf. A really fresh sound, Weightless has a catchy melody and some incredible guitar riffs. Then you’ve got your country flavoured tracks, namely He’s Frank by Brighton Port Authority featuring Iggy Pop. That classic 80’s song Heroes by David Bowie ends the soundtrack and sums up how broad the song selection is. In all, none of the songs standout and make you want to buy this CD. If you love that Bowie song or the seriously funky electro tune Keep My Composure by the Chemical Brothers and Spank Rock than you’re better off buying their albums. After all, at least that way you get twelve or so more tracks that are sure to appeal to your music tastes. | ![]() |
