This is the debut album for New Zealand singer-songwriter Hollie Smith. It is quite an enterprising set of songs, ones that Hollie also arranged and produced, with input from like-minded collaborators Jeremy Toy and James Poyser (Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, Lauryn Hill). The songs have been compiled over four years of writing and seeking the right musicians to record with. Hollie employed several back-up singers to lend a hand and even included a Wellington-based choir to add a massive soul voice. She has been winning over audiences with her penetrating voice of soulful hooks and creative lyricism. The heartfelt emotion is clearly evident and her expressive songs are sure to endear her to wider audiences. It is an impressive debut for this determined young performer.
