:: The Inspector Cluzo - The Inspector Cluzo

The Inspector Cluzo

Well where do you start with the weird French two-piece known as Inspector Cluzo. Despite the fact these guys have played at music festivals all around the world you are never sure whether to take them seriously or to treat them as a part-joke. Some of their debut self-titled album sounds serious while at other times they are clearly having a joke… or are they simply just having fun. They are clearly having fun with the opening track ‘The Inspector Cluzo’. They use this track as a but of an intro to the band, and despite the great melody and falsetto it is pretty cheesy. But then they strike back with ‘Change #1’ which is rock with a bit of attitude, and although hardened music fans may have to be tortured to admit it, the gruff vocals and pop-punk sound of ‘Mad’ are pretty enjoyable as a listen as well. It’s hear the wheels fall of this album a little. ‘F**k The Bass Player’ is funky but it’s also a cheesy joke song. The funk continues on ‘Do You make It Right’ but the electro sound destroys any rock feel the song could have had… and to be honest electro does not suit The Inspector Cluzo. And as for ‘Turtulututututu’, well the less said the better, this is so cheesy that Coon is jealous. The duo hit their straps again with the really heavy ‘Two Days’ which I think is the best track on the album, while the mixture of the heavy and funky sounds on ‘Yourself’ seems to work really well. ‘Us Food’ sees them find a bit more grunt, which works well and ‘Yuppie Way Of Life Blues’ is just pure rock. Even the slow closing track ‘Change #2’ seems to work. I’m afraid with this self-titled album from The Inspector Cluzo you do have to take the good with the bad. Good for a listen but be prepared to skip a few tracks.
