:: International Submarine Band feat. Gram Parsons - Safe At HomeInternational Submarine Band feat. Gram ParsonsThis is a re-issued album from 1967 when Gram Parsons was part of this outfit. He later went on to The Flying Burrito Brothers amongst other projects. This “Safe At Home” album was only previously available on vinyl and had become quite collectable. So, for Gram‘s fans this is a real eye-opener to have these songs mastered from the original tapes and restored to CD, and featuring original artowork and rare photos. This was the only album he recorded with the International Submarine Band and gives the listener a feeling to what Gram introduced before he later went on to develop his musical repertoire further. What we'd heard later (an R&B feel) was not evident here. Gram Parsons had a country leaning, which could have been due to local Nashville session musicians of the time who'd come in and assist with pedal steel guitar. The sounds are progressive for their time as country rock was rare back in 1967. His emotive vocals and songwriting talent were apparent and he did like country music greatly. This record sits well in its own right and it contains a ripping rhythm section. This re-issued version has an added track, the previously unreleased “Knee Deep In The Blues”. There is a certain charm to listening to such a record and it stands the test of time in being a very collectable piece from Gram Parsons’ history. It's quite insightful and deserves a good listen. | ![]() |
