I’m the first to admit I was a bit sceptical when I heard INXS were going to ride the reality TV rollercoaster in order to find their new lead singer. I mean how many bona fide stars can TV really deliver? After listening to INXS latest single ‘Afterglow’, it is clear that my scepticism was unwarranted, and the answer is a lot more than I had first expected. JD Fortune is everything the band could have hoped for. He looks and sounds like a rock star. He can croon and belt on demand, and he gives INXS a fresh new look that is sure to appeal to a brand new audience. ‘Afterglow’ is a fantastic follow up to the band's initial release, as it showcases their ability to slow things down and stir people’s emotions. It’s a definite departure from their original sound, an important step to take if they hope to regain their popularity without the presence of the iconic Michael Hutchence. My scepticism returns as I question: will this marriage of convenience last, or is it another five minute fad that will not be able to be sustained without the support of a TV program? I guess that’s a question that only time and fans can answer.
