:: Jack Johnson - Sleep Through The StaticJack JohnsonAh, Jackie J, ever reliable and such a damn likeable guy. Hell, he drops an album, any album, and it debuts at number #1! Impressive stuff for a guy who’s never changed his music style since the first album. Honestly, I loved his first two albums but since then it’s all rather yawn yawn. And that’s exactly how ‘Sleep Through The Static’ plays out (apt title too). It’s more of the same acoustic flavoured, subdued melodic tunes we have grown accustomed to. It’s about time you challenged yourself, Jack. This style is boring and same same. I know it means you might not have a number one album, millions in the bank or legions of adoring fans but don’t you think you owe it to yourself? Life isn’t about standing still my friend! Still, I suppose if you’re onto a good thing stick to it, even if it makes you more boring than ever. My favourite thing about this, his fifth album, was that it recorded with 100% solar energy. Where were those dark storm clouds and overcast days when you need them? There’s no point mentioning any particular songs or tracks because they all sound the same. I mean, it’s not like you haven’t heard them before, only the song titles have changed. Look, if you like safe and I do mean safe, by all means buy this and feel good about yourself, but if you like your music artists to make challenging, interesting albums then go seek a Ben Harper or others who consistently look to move forward while embracing their past. | ![]() |
