:: Janita - HauntedJanitaIt's a terrific thing to find an expressive singer, which has just come out of the blue and jumped at you. Such is the fortune of being able to hear about a talented singer called Janita. She is originally from Finland, then moved to New York City, and her career had endured an unfortunate situation of being over-hyped. A record deal with Sony in the late 1990s, when Janita was a teenager, didn't work to plan. Now, with the assistance of co-producer Jamie Siegel and new-found confidence, Janita has compiled edgy, honest songs. There are interesting textures, aggressive guitar work and drum programming which has made for attractive listening. From what I have read about her past, she seems to have found the right voice and a freedom of expression. There are some gloriously poignant, passionate tracks with Janita belting out the lyrics in a soulful manner. The electronic flavours and guitars give a good all-round package. The voice is the mainstay and it's a gift that she can now use to forge a rewarding career. I note the contemplative look on the CD cover and the fact I've only ever seen photos of Janita in an unsmiling state. Hopefully, that will change in the future.
