:: Joan As Policewoman - Real LifeJoan As PolicewomanJoan Wasser has great musical credentials. I first saw her as a violinist in The Dambuilders and they came to Australia to play brilliantly as support to the late Jeff Buckley. Her musicianship was terrific. Since then she has been a member of Rufus Wainwright’s band, played alongside Antony as one of the Johnsons, and helped out Scissor Sisters and Lou Reed, amongst others. Now Joan thought it was time to create a solo record (under the guise of Joan As Policewoman), and it’s one of the best I’ve heard of 2006. There is much sincerity in her music as she provides a rich, textured set of tracks. It ranges from the heartfelt strains of “The Ride”, “Feed The Light”, to more groove-laden tracks like “Save Me” and “Flushed Chest”. Possibly my favourite track is “Christobel”, beautifully sung with lots of soul and passion. I hadn’t really heard Joan sing before. It’s as if she has come out of nowhere to produce something very individual and cohesive. Sit back, relax with a drink and absorb the expressive and gorgeous vocals of Joan As Policewoman. It will set you straight. | ![]() http://www.joanaspolicewoman.com |
