Even as the years roll on by this rock/blues star still has what it takes. Hymn For My Soul is a lovely album full of character and charm, and is perfect for a lazy day’s listening. Featuring mainly ballads Cocker’s rustic voice full of experience and wisdom moulds perfectly into fast paced Hymn For My Soul, or the move slow and soulful paced Don’t Give Up On Me, a beautiful track about broken love, sang with heartfelt emotion. Rivers Invitation deserves a mention for the fantastic musical solo. Never was an musical instrument placed in more capable hands. The music brings forth so much life and character; it’s just a joy to listen to. Cocker’s vast talent means any of his albums will be a sure fire winner amongst fans. And while the album doesn’t deliver any surprises, it’s success lies in its dependability. Joe Cocker knows his art very well, and knows how to use it to great effect. A really good album.
