:: Josh Pyke - Memories & Dust

Josh Pyke

I‘ve been following Josh Pyke (formerly Night Hour), for sometime now. He first struck me as a gifted young individual after his brilliant (and I believe his best song) 'Children Don't Sell Their Hopes So Fast’. This was promptly followed by ‘The Doldrums’, again a killer single, and even though he had racked up two great EPs in that time, it wasn‘t until the Triple J staple 'Middle Of The Hill’ hit the hottest 100, lobbing in at an impressive #19, that the rest of Australia began to take notice too. With another extended EP in between, the Pykester has finally dropped his long-awaited debut album with ‘Memories & Dust’. The twelve songs display Pyke as a genuine talent and although they don't stretch his talent too far from what he has already achieved so far, and to be honest don't overly excite me as I had hoped, they are solid enough and ground him for a solid musical career in the coming years. Even though guitar playing singer/songwriters are a dime a dozen, Pyke has the goods (and sound), which make him rise higher than the pack. Discover what I knew a few years back and grab a copy of this fine Australian's album and watch as his star continues to rise.
