:: Kama Sutra - A tantric mix of Bhangra Hiphop album

Various Artists

Warning this album contains perception-altering beats: Dance music is no longer the exclusive domain of the Ibiza club, Fat Boys-slim or skinny bald vegans. There is a new player in town. Combining the rich and mystical sound of India with heavy rhythmic beats, ‘Kama Sutra’ is about to ask you the question; Is India the new dance music Mecca? OK, so perhaps I’m going a little overboard, but ‘Kama Sutra’ is definitely a well-positioned oasis in an otherwise dry, dusty and tired dance environment. I would be amiss if I did not say that this album contains all the elements to be a dance/mainstream crossover success. Already the featured artists are getting recognition, most notably Panjabi MC, who has received heavy play on both Rage and on the radio with ‘Mundian to Bach Ke (Beware of the Boys)’. ‘Kama Sutra’ has a little something for everyone, from bold trance beats, to slow grooves that bring the sounds of Bombay right into your living room. To make the album even more appealing, it also has a number of Hip-Hop influenced tracks. Again combining the styles original sound with that of India’s, the artists have managed to push the preconceived boundaries to create a product that is both unique and enjoyable. Just imagine the deep and mystical stories of India’s past, with its royalty, snake charmers and beautiful architecture, combined with the excitement and extravagance of a Bollywood epic, and there you have an insight into why this record is so intriguing.
