:: Kate Nash - Made Of BricksKate NashLooking like a sparkling diamond and with selling power to burn, Kate Nash reveals an honest and biting tone to her debut album. There are some gorgeous moments of introspection that will catch the ear, with some inviting beats and generally endearing tunes. Some harshness in the songs dictate Kate's everyday observances in which she moulds jazzy pop with bitchy and amusing lyrics. I like her style greatly because she hasn't thrown all her eggs into the same basket and leaves scope for her potential to shine through in the future. It's refreshing to see young women like Kate looking pretty cool but having some substance behind her. Mind you, there are a couple of little gripes. I don't think it is a great idea to call two of the tracks, “Dickhead” and “S**t Song”. Yes, the songs are sarcastic and girlish, but should not be used as song titles. Having said that, “Dickhead” is a well constructed and subtle voice of angst that will be hard to get out of your head. Kate is another of the new breed of talented young female vocalists ready to soar. She can deliver exuberant pop, cool R&B, and dark love songs. That isn't a bad package and I am sure her star will rise much further. | ![]() |
