Katy Perry was born Katherine Hudson and grew up singing in church and, when she was 16, released a self-titled Christian album and received a rave review in religious circles. Katy Perry is Hudson's new persona, and she seems to be the exact opposite of Katy Hudson. She even changed her hair colour from blonde to midnight black. The new Katy is definitely not promoting a Christian worldview. The single “I Kissed A Girl” is a song of defiant rock, pop and punk-tronic beats with a splash of style due in part to Katy’s killer voice and in her love of vintage clothes. Katy's hit single about wanting to kiss a girl is flirty and really doesn't get graphic. She admits that she had a drink in order to build up the courage to go ahead with the kiss. The video features women in fishnets with Perry stroking herself very suggestively. It's extremely catchy and likeable; gaining enough attention to top the charts.
