The ex-Sneaker Pimps star has been resurrected to Australian ears through this new solo CD. Kelli has been one of my favourite vocalists since the ambitious and gorgeous songs of her previous musical foray. The distinctive sexy vocals (remember Spin Spin Sugar and 6 Underground) are still evident from those prominent times. You’ll tap to the opening number “Hot Lips”, while a couple of tracks, 7 (Graffiti Boy) and 9 (Voyeur) are outstanding. It’s surprising to hear some chilled, reflective beats, resulting in a not-in-your-face attitude that I might have expected. Kelli is one of the finest vocalists in music. She had a fine album about eighteen months ago titled “Tigermouth”, which was shamefully ignored. It’s time to get immersed into “Psychic Cat”, one of a few good releases from this enterprising record label.
