:: Kelly Clarkson - BreakawayKelly ClarksonI’ve been waiting for the day in which I could say that one of the “Idol” branded performers would be able to take the next step and chart a path for ongoing success. Kelly Clarkson has made that leap forward by virtue of this edgy and captivating set of songs. Already "Since U Been Gone” has rocketed up the Australian singles charts. It’s only the tip of the iceberg, as she seems set move towards bigger things. There is much substance and potency in her delivery and she has definitely veered away from her “Idol mates” in some alluring and melancholy tracks. There is a good flow to the album, from “Addicted”, to “”Behind These Hazel Eyes”, and the fine title track. She ends the set with passionate renditions of “Hear Me” and a stunning live piano version of “Beautiful Disaster”. Her voice shows out to be versatile and strong and there are no gimmicks. It’s simply effective as a really good listen, with that touch of angst and risk-taking that should be credited. Her songwriting talent will continue to grow too and talent behind the songwriting. She has embraced a polished pop-rock direction for now and makes real strides in the way she can rock out or sing a sublime ballad. Kelly has definitely made her breakaway in the right direction. | ![]() |
