:: Kings Of Leon - Because Of The TimesKings Of LeonAh, the Kings Of Leon. Where would the world of music be without these American alt-rockers? In a much worse position I‘m sure. Now into their third album, family Followill has truly endeared themselves upon the record buying public. In 'Because Of The Times’ (an album that grows and grows on you) the Kings have delivered the kind of record that‘s very difficult not to rank as their best - that's how good it is! First single 'On Call’ with its slow calculated start, is but one example of the progression of this band. Maturity is a word that gets bandied about with usually very little substance or merit behind it but when a band renowned more for their rock credentials than softer side produces the kind of songs normally reserved for more serious seasoned veterans, well it‘s hard not to sit up and take notice. Opener 'Knocked Up’ sets the trend, as it burns slow for two minutes before the heat and volume are turned up, and that in the seven minutes it takes to complete the track, your left feeling seduced and amazed by the vastness of it all. ‘Charmer’ screeches and squeals its way into the senses and despite initially coming across as somewhat grating, soon weaves its subtle magic. And that‘s the beauty of the King's latest chapter as most of the songs aren't immediate or catchy as their predecessors were. There's very little not to like about the way the four boys go about their business. They prove they've still got plenty of love and loyalty for rock 'n’ roll with the more recognisable Kings‘ sound apparent in tracks such as 'McFearless’, ‘My Party’ and ‘Camaro’. In all, there‘s so much to take out of this album, that it's impossible not to fall in love with it. The Kings Of Leon and their stunningly alluring album 'Because Of The Times’ is what great rock music is all about! | ![]() |
