British pop-soul singer Kirsten Price grew up singing in church groups in London. She has self-released this debut album and it is a beauty. Already, tracks from it have been featured on television shows such as “CSI”, “The L-Word” and “Cashmere Mafia.” Kirsten did enlist the support from some renowned people in the production scene - namely Raphael Saadiq, whose long-time presence in R&B has been notable. Kirsten was also recently handpicked as an opening act by Wyclef Jean. “Guts & Garbage” makes for a self-assured and sensual debut. Little was I to know after hearing “Magic Tree” earlier this year, that this was just a taste of how good Kirsten is as a singer-songwriter. The album is intense, provocative and captivating. She covers a lot of ground, from classic-sounding R&B to breathy ballads, to brassy dancefloor pop. The variety helps keep her from sounding too much like Amy Winehouse or Joss Stone but Kirsten Price is a name to remember in her own right, as one hell of a charismatic performer.
