Kylie Minogue

Kylie continues to be Australia’s darling to the music world, and this album of thirteen tracks will endear her to anyone with a discerning ear for something with a little spice and edge to it. With her superstar status entrenched and deserved the reaction from fans and the general public will be interesting. Her existing fan base will revel in the way Kylie accentuates her youthful voice. On several tracks she sounds as young as ever, while casting a discerning mature presence on others, particularly in the second half of the set. She has been keen to look at newfound endeavours in terms of selecting the right producers and collaborators and there is a tantalising mix of people involved here, rather like the approach that Madonna and Prince have adopted previously – to seek ulterior passages into the heads of listeners. There are some fascinating things to note. Names you might be familiar with that are involved in the album are Ms Dynamite (co-writer on ‘Secret/Take You Home’), the vocals of Green Gartside on “Someday”, and writing duties by Cathy Dennis and the capable singer-songwriter Emiliana Torrini. I believe the album will grow on listeners upon a few listens. There isn’t the instant appeal element as with the infectious pop standards in Kylie’s previous albums like “Light Years” and “Fever”, but the last few tracks may be where the success of this album lies. “Slo Motion” comes as a bonus track for Australia. At least Kylie hasn’t stood still in her endeavours and her fans will still appreciate this phase of her career.
